PRINCIPAL DANCER & CHOREOGRAPHER
Jirí Bubenícek a Czech citizen, born in Lubin in 1974, studied dance at the Prague Dance Conservatory. In 1992, he received an award at the Prix de Lausanne, an international competition for young dancers, and made his professional debut in 1993 with John Neumeier's Hamburg Ballet. There, he was promoted to soloist in 1995 and then Principal Dancer in 1997. Dance all principal roles in John Neumeier repertoire. J. Neumeier created Vaclav Nijinsky in “Nijinsky” specially for Jirí. The ballet was received with enormous success and it has been tour in all over the world. In August of 2006, Mr. Bubenícek took an engagement as a Principal dancer with the Semperoper Ballet in Dresden, Germany.
2012 received the International Ballet Award Dance Open “Best Duet”, awarded with the "Prix Benois de la Danse" (Best Dancer) in 2002. He received a second place award at the 20th International Ballet Competition in Varna for his choreography of "Made on Earth", as well as the Public's Choice Award for "Prisoners of Feelings" at the 18th International Competition for Choreographers in Hanover.
He has guess, as a Principal dancer, with many main leading European companies including Opéra national de Paris dancing with Aurelie Dupont and Agnes Letestu as “Arman Duval” in “La Dame aux camélias”.
Mr. Bubenicek has created new works, such as; “Gentle Memories” premiered in D. Koch theater in Lincoln Center New York, “Toccata” for New York City Ballet, "Le Souffle de l´Esprit" for Zurich Ballet and staged it for Manuel Legris´Vienna State Ballet, and North Carolina Dance Theater, "Unerreichbare Orte" for Hamburg Ballet, “Die Innere Stimme” for Dresden Semperoper Ballet, “Outrenoir” for China National Ballet, "Graffity" for Laterna Magika in Prague and others. He has presented several times his choreographic works in Japan, Tokyo or Sapporo and throughout Europe.
In May 2009 Mr. Bubenícek together with his twin brother Otto created “Bubenícek and Friends” - their performance which has for two evenings received standing ovation in National Theather in Prague. Another performances of their group created by the brothers, presenting Jirí’s choreographies and Otto’s stage, costume design and music, was perform with the name “Bubenícek Ballet World” in 2011 in Auditorium Conciliazione di Roma and touring around Czech republic.
15th of May 2011 “Ballett für Japan” or “Dance for the Land of the Rising Sun” was a charity ballet gala organized and initiated by Jirí and Otto inviting international dancers to perform together , to help for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan. Principal dancers from all German main big ballet companies performed in Dresden’s incredible art museum Albertinum to help Japan.
He danced in Donna Feuer's film documentary: "The Work of Utopia", as well as the leading role in Aaron Watkin’s “The Nutcracker” shown in December 2011 by TV Arte, leading role "The King Ludwig II." in the DVD production in John Neumeier's "Illusions - like Swan Lake” and in "Death in Venice". In 2005 TV Arte made a documentary film about Jirí and his twin brother Otto "Die Ballett-Zwillinge" (“The Ballet Twins”).
